The Berylune Blog

Scrambled eggs on toast please...
Oh, no, we're not that sort of shop.

However, we do have a beautiful pair of chairs with a matching table, that would look just marvelous topped with scrambled eggs and a fresh pot of coffee, don't you think?

They have been sanded, waxed and covered in pretty oil cloth for your breakfasting pleasure.

Oh Bobbins!
We have some new necklaces in stock! They are miniature wooden bobbin pendants on an 18" 925 silver chain. We have all the colours of the rainbow available (that's not like us is it?!),  and come with a kraft gift box.

New Bobbin Necklaces, £12.95
Spring Honey
My fella, Nic, has been keeping bees for just over a year now. It started with a Christmas present in 2010, followed by the purchase of a couple of boxes of angry sounding bees, and ended with two friendly, honey-producing hives.

The fruits of Nic's labour, or I should say Nic's Bees' labour, can now be purchased in our shop. This is our spring harvest, so it's light in colour and sets completely....
Paper for Wrapping...or Crafting...
We love our wrapping paper. We have 30 different designs, from stripey ones that give you a headache, to ditsy florals that look like they might have been influenced by our design Mecca, Liberty.

Someone would feel very special indeed if they received a present wrapped in this fabulous stuff. We have also been using it in a number of different crafting projects, from a paper patchwork wall display...
Washi Love
We love our Washi Tape. People not familiar with the stuff often ask us, 'What's it for?', we usually reply 'to make things look pretty!' Some people remain perplexed but buy it anyway! We'll have to have a little showcase of Washi-inspired projects.

A whole stack of Washi Tape

Amy was making some of our business cards the other day. We keep meaning to get some printed, but we're waiting for...
More Vintage Goodness
We have a few new bits and bobs in the shop this week:

I tweeted about this one (@BeryluneUK), '1970s Plastic Picnic set seeks VW Camper van for fun times and frolics...' I do hope we find someone with a cool bell tent at least.

I think the new vintage has a bit of a theme... Perhaps we were feeling a bit retro this week? Or maybe we're just loving the colour orange?

Father's day is coming up. This...
God Save the Queen
It was pretty quiet in the shop on Sunday. We were mostly watching the festivities online and celebrating in our own special way (flouncing around with a feather duster and reading the new Mollie Makes! Although, when I looked at their site it would appear that I got my copy of no. 15 before they did. How odd.) Although it was quiet, we had some great customers; of course, all of our customers are...
Lomo Promo. And other poetry.
We are running a promotion on our Lomo cameras this month - get a free camera stamp or camera badge with your purchase if you quote one of Lomo's 10 golden rules at our counter.

Here are the badges and stamps - which would you pick?

Our blue wig finally arrived from China. I think it might need a trim! We finally have a means of displaying the embroidered headbands we stock from Janine Basil....
The tale of the horse's heads
Last Sunday, on our weekly boot market trawl, I snagged a pair of horse head bookends whilst Amy wasn't looking. I did so with great speed, so she could not prevent me from purchasing them.

They were orange varnished pine silhouettes that had been hand painted with horsey features, including big Disney-style doe eyes.

I loved them immediately of course, as I so often do with impossibly kitsch items,...
Stationery Omission
I left something out of the picture I posted about our stationery offering a few days ago. The photo I took was very poorly framed and left out what is clearly the most beautifully presented product in our shop. So here it is:

Don't you think these paperclips are arranged in a very pleasing manner? Look, the penguin is even running away from the crocodile. Someone has clearly put a lot of time and...
Red, White and Blue
The weather has been a hot topic of conversation in our shop this afternoon. But then, isn't it always? Are we ever really happy?

Let's hope this warm spell lasts for the Jubilee next weekend. 60 years. Go Queenie.

We have been giving our shop a patriotic overhaul today - results below.

One of our boxes, filled with Red, White & Blue earrings, washi tape bunting, original jubilee cups filled with...
A wall of beautiful crochet

Look at all the beautiful crochet pot holders! I want a wall just like this....

I think Anu Tuominen might have been to more car boots than we have!
Broken Cookies
We have a relatively well-equipped kitchen in our shop. Consequently, whenever we fancy buying sarnies from the local deli (there are several, we favour Rustic at the moment as they sell yummy Italian lemonade), we feel a bit guilty because we really ought to be using our kitchen.

So. Lunchtime today, Amy pointed out it was my turn to buy the ham. Quite right too, so I headed to M & S. It's nicer...
Roses are red
and pink and blue and green and yellow and...you get the picture.

Our pretty rose earrings are now for sale in our webshop...and they're a steal at £3.50! I have a salmony pink pair, but I might well get a pair in every colour...

I wonder why Nic didn't put them in rainbow order for this picture? Or is that just something I do?

We used to make these for the Christmas markets, but I couldn't wear them...
Bakers Dozen
Well. 10.

Ten yummy colours of bakers twine arrived today, in all the colours of the rainbow.

Look how pretty they are! What is this fabulous stuff? What do you do with it? Click here for some ideas. Or you can just lay it out in rainbow order and look at it, like we do.

Nic updated our webshop to include our lamp shade kits today. They have been selling like hotcakes! It's not surprising really; you...
Nate's New Bag
You may have noticed the odd Zatchel floating around our shop. We love them. So do our customers, which is great! One week in and we have sold 3 of these babies. I'm very excited, as soon as we need to re-order I shall be purchasing a 16" in bright yellow so I can carry my laptop around in style.

Berylune's first official paying customer was Nate. He's an incredibly talented photographer and my...
Jumbo Ric Rac!
The sun blessed us with it's presence this afternoon...

And no-one parked outside the shop for a full 2 minutes, allowing Nic to take the above photo. We hope to update our window display this weekend, so watch this space...

A very exciting delivery arrived today. Here is part of it:

JUMBO RIC RAC. YES.

Don't you want to fondle it and stitch it on to your clothes? Amy spent this afternoon fondling it...
I love my Corgi
I have a confession to make. I don't like shopping. I'm sorry. I know I am a traitor to womankind, but I just can't help it.

There are exceptions. I like shops by the sea side. Why do our coastal towns have more interesting things for sale? Are there no local artists or craftsfolk inland? Or am I in a better frame of mind to browse because I'm on holiday and there is a beach just around the next...
And a final note on the Birthday...

Amy's new camera.
'But it's my Burfday'
It's day 2. Amy's Birthday. Can't you tell from the badge?
'I want a Ben's Cookie'. 'Get it yourself'. 'But it's my BURFDAY!'

I've taken a few pictures from around the shop for you to look at.

Here are our Welsh purses. Still planning on making a welsh blanket patterned wrapping paper, watch this space! You can see a very pretty green satchel in the background, as well as a fabulous sewing tin I want...
And we're open....
So here it is!

We are open. We have had customers, and they have purchased things. Not bad, we haven't advertised or promoted ourselves at all yet.

The bird sign went up this morning, the lettering was up on Tuesday.

Yesterday we had no stock on our shelves whatsoever....but now we have THIS:

and some of this:

and a little bit of this:
Here is the back room:

and the wall of pictures and lomos:
So there is...
