Something for the weekend - #80moviesrock

People younger than myself seem not to have watched even nearly enough 80s films. So if you're wondering what to do with your weekend, here is the first installment of my A-Z of unmissable 80s movies and why you should watch them.

A

An American Werewolf in London? All the Right Moves? The Abyss? All fine choices, but it has to be:

Aliens.

Why I like it - I remember recording Aliens on to VHS and it taking me about 3 attempts (by myself) before I could actually watch it all the way through, so scared was I. What's amazing about Aliens is that, although it was made in 1986, it absolutely does not feel like an 80's movie, because it really hasn't dated at all. I love the slow start. I love Ripley fighting the Alien Queen in a fork-lift-mech-suit. I love the amusing banter between the soldiers. I love the proper, old school special effects. I love that it's a Horror-Sci-Fi-War-Movie. And I fancied Hicks rotten in it.

Favourite quote - Hudson: Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man? Vasquez: No. Have you?

It's awesome. If you haven't seen it, watch it. If you have seen it, why not watch it again?
