The Berylune Blog

We put balloons in our window.
Because that's what you do when it's your birthday.

Apparently, you also have to have a sea of party bags to hand out to your customers.
A sea I say.

We're 2!
Can you believe it? Two whole years! We opened our shop in May 2012. Looking back, it's amazing how sparse our little shop looked! We have learnt a lot in the last two years. Berylune is now bursting at the seams, full of things we love. We've made new friends. We have a new partner. Thank you all for supporting us, we really appreciate it. We hope you're enjoying Berylune as much as we are!

We're on Cloud 9
We took delivery of an exciting parcel from America the other day...

Our first fabric shipment from Cloud 9

Since then, we have seen beautiful photos on Instagram from Roisin, Kit tweeted us her fabulous Washi dress (more Washi patterns on their way this soon, sorry we've sold out!) and Zoë made thismarvelous frock from The Mortmain pattern (again, we've sold out, but fear not! they should be back...
Carnival Tickets
No, I'm not STILL talking about parties, I promise. But we sell these carnival tickets, and we offer to print them by hand with your chosen message in our shop.

This week we received a monster order, so Zoë and Amy have been printing hundreds of the things! I managed to avoid the majority of the work, but it was completely accidental. Honest.

In other news, Amy celebrates her Birthday next week! So...
All this talk of parties...
Did you know we sell beauteous party stuffs? Paper straws (now available in rainbow stars and chevrons), hats, crowns, patterned plates, cups and napkins, as well as tissue pom poms starting at just £1, crepe paper streamers, paper chains and bunting, new felt photo booth props, school milk bottles, jumbo confetti and chevron & striped paper bags! The smaller items (straws, bags and streamers) are...

My small ceramic Rhino has his ticket, have you got yours?

Did you know we stock craft books?
Yup, we do. And we have some really cool ones! Here are some of my favourites:

We are BIG fans of Eloise Renouf, and have stocked her prints here at the shop since we opened. When we saw this amazing book Eloise illustrated, we ordered it straight away! There are blank spaces inside for you to draw your own trees, flowers, birds etc. Not your thing? We also stock 20 ways to draw a dress.
Jane Foster...
Ahh! So much going on!
We've been ordering new things for the shop. I have ordered a big thing for me that won't arrive until June (I've had the same one for 8 years now, it's time she retired). We've also booked a thing for you all to enjoy.

Watch this space for a very exciting announcement coming soon. In the mean time, here are some fawn brooches:

Washi Wednesday
I have Lara to thank for this week's Washi Wednesday; I had grand plans to blow an egg and cover it in Washi, but I liked Lara's idea better. So here it is:

Washi Wednesday
I labelled some of the Berylune stash today. Washi makes great labels if you have the right pen - you might have to try a couple of different ones out on your Washi before you strike gold.

It does seem a bit pointless though, being as the containers are see-through. They're clearly buttons. What was I thinking?

The weekend is a blur.
We had so much fun this weekend! We had a lovely group of Hens in the studio, they were creating Embroidery Hoop Art under Zoë & Amy's expert tutelage. Check out our ever-growing pinterest board  for ideas if you fancy having a go at home, or come along to our next workshop if you would like some inspiration or guidance - as well as unfettered access to our stash of trims and scraps!

How are you...
We like shelves. (Also some Friday Finds)
Little sets of shelves are ace. You can fill them with your favourite bits and pieces. Mine have Gregory Peck on them, a marble, a doll from Retrouve, a caravan, a highland cow, an alabaster bird, a plate with a donkey on it, a wooden bird Amy bought me for my Birthday, a pretty felt doll that Zoë made for me, a Christmas present from Paul (those nesting owls are amazing, aren't they?), an old...
Knickers! Why am I so rubbish at blogging?
We're always pretty busy here at the shop. We have regular craft workshops and parties, we get new stock in and we take lots of pretty photos of these things. We tend to post them on Facebook, almost always overlooking the blog. I don't know why we started doing this, but I've decided no more! The blog deserves pretty pictures too.

So here are some photos of four lovely ladies making knickers in...
Tutorial - Make a Lampshade from a Tea Towel
We were asked to write a guest blog post for Warwickshire's Week of Thrift recently, which we were very excited to be involved with - as you know, we are all natural born thrifters around here! Here is our Tea Towel Lampshade tutorial:

For this project, you will need:
  • 1 x tea towel (or piece of fabric) at least 66cm x 22cm
  • 1 x 20cm lamp shade kit (available to purchase in our shop)
  • A pair of sharp...
Washi Wednesday
We have the cutest new 3" embroidery hoops now in stock, they make great frames for small fabric pictures. Below we have (by we, I mean Zoë) framed a pretty bit of fabric, but covered the outer hoop in washi tape first.

Friday Finds
I found this cutie in a charity shop. And would you believe it was reduced for a speedy sale? How did it not sell at full price? Or am I just odd for liking this stuff?

Washi Wednesday
Local friend of the shop and food blogger, Janey, aka Slice of Slim, is a huge fan of Washi tape. These days Janey regularly contributes to Weight Watchers Magazine, so I think we can safely say she has made the transition from food blogger to food writer! Janey's blog is full of genuis ideas if you're dieting, and they're pretty delicious even if you're not.

Washi tape is featured regularly on...
Some words on 'Vintage'.

Vintage. What does it even mean, anyways? Well as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing at all. Click here for an almost deliberately vague definition.

We buy old stuff. We sell old stuff in our shop. It probably makes up less than 10% of our stock, so not very much. Why do we do this? Well, we like it. Our homes are filled with it. Compared to brand new, well designed homewares and gift...
Friday Finds
Last week, I found a Thumper to go with my Flower. This week, Zoë found me a Bambi as well! Zoë rocks.
