As of Friday 24th July, you must wear a face covering by law* when shopping in shops in England.
Consequently, we have revised our policy to the following:
These measures have been carefully considered and discussed with our staff, who need to feel comfortable and safe in their working environment. We are aware that our policy exceeds Government recommended safety guidelines.
Face coverings are required because:
Coronavirus (COVID-19) can spread predominantly by droplets from coughs, sneezes and speaking. These droplets can also be picked up from surfaces, if you touch a surface and then your face without washing your hands first.
This message has been consistent throughout the easing of lockdown, and this information is very much at odds with our knowledge of how the majority of children conduct themselves in store… children like to touch things in Berylune, which we have always encouraged, and whilst our staff are able to socially distance from adults, it’s a lot harder for them to distance from children. We want Berylune to be an enjoyable shopping experience, not one marred by endless rules.
Our previous policy did not permit entry to children at all. We are now allowing children who are able to wear masks - whether that’s appropriate or not is entirely at the discretion of the child’s parent. We understand that there will be some age groups that are unable to browse our shop - Public Health England recommend that children under the age of 3 don’t wear face coverings due to understandable safety concerns.
We appreciate that this decision might mean that some parents, by extension, are not currently able to shop with us. We thank you for your support in the past and hope we see you again in the future.
Don’t forget we are still offering free local pickup from our side door, and UK shipping is still free on orders over £25, so you can continue to enjoy Berylune goodies, even if you can’t visit us in person at the moment.
*There are exceptions to this law. Examples include those unable to wear a mask due to a physical or mental illness or impairment and if wearing a face covering will cause you severe distress. If you cannot wear a mask for ANY reason, you’re vulnerable or you feel uncomfortable shopping at the moment, we are offering personal shopping appointments that you can book online here.
